Winter often means snow-covered and icy roads. Experienced truckers know that the lighter the load, the less traction the tires have. Even trucks hauling heavy loads can lose traction in snow and ice. One of the most important things about driving a commercial motor vehicle during adverse weather conditions is to maintain vehicle traction. Ice, snow, and high winds all work towards reducing traction as well as visibility.

Tire chains are one of the best tools to help maintain traction when the road surfaces are covered in winter precipitation. In this video we will show you how to install tire chains on your commercial vehicle. Extreme conditions are not the best time to learn how to install tire chains, so inspect them and practice installing prior to needing to actually use them!

Please remember, even though you might have great traction and the experience to drive in less-than-perfect road conditions, the other driver might not!

Why Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks Are Better Than the Rest

Why Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks Are Better Than the Rest

I’m often asked what I THINK is THE BEST TRUCK in the CLASS 8 MARKET.
I don’t hesitate to say PACCAR TRUCKS – Peterbilt trucks and Kenworth Trucks are the best.
From 33 years of owning trucks, I have found Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks to be very reliable and great value.
I have found the service efficient. Whenever I was in need of warranty work or other repairs, the repair shops were able to schedule my trucks quickly.
This was super important to me, in order to avoid excess downtime.
I found their warranties to be very comprehensive.
Paccar backed up their warranties as well. I’ve known many truck owners with Freightliners, Internationals and other makes of trucks, who have warranty issues with their trucks.
Kenworth and Peterbilt are sturdy and reliable trucks, which in my experience have served me well for my type of trucking, which for the most part has been long haul trucking.
Reliability, dependabilty and value…. all traits of a good truck.
If you have a truck which is turning a healthy profit for you, then THAT IS A GREAT TRUCK, no matter what the make!!!

Diesel Engine Tampering – Overriding New Trucks Emissions Controls Dilemma

Diesel Engine Tampering - Overriding New Trucks Emissions Controls Dilemma

There are big rig repair shops throughout North America, which specialize in removing emissions control equipment from the newer trucks.
Big trucks have had ongoing problems with the added emissions controls equipment, to the point that big truck owners, are going against regs, and having the emissions equipment removed from their trucks, in order to stay viable and on the road!
However, this practice is against the controls set up by the powers that be.
What’s an owner operator to do, when he has a truck that is constantly breaking down, with the culprit being the def equipment on his truck?
It’s a dilemma that the trucking industry is facing, without hope of a resolution in the near future.
The new trucks breakdown rate is slowly improving, however they have a long way to go before the bugs are completely worked out.
In the mean time, DEF removal shops are flourishing.
