Now that I knew this thing still worked, at least somewhat, it was time to fix what went wrong and replace the missing pieces with what I had laying around.
This was another one of those “redneck” fixes where nothing has to look original or perfect, it just has to work again. That being the case, there are no holds barred on what to use for the repair.
I found there was a device at the top of the cylinder head (I presume to release excess pressure as the unit is running) which had failed. It had an air vent that would stick open once the machine got to about 100 PSI, and started blowing air out. Because the piston is very hot, the air being expelled was as well, which actually melted a small hole in the housing. That clued me in where to look, the fix was my own idea.
I don’t think the wheel is going to end up working out; hot glue is not going to hold it. I can try to epoxy it in, but I think instead I might have a rubber foot that will fit over it, which I can then fill with hot glue and that will hold.
